About the Author - Jeff Stickler
I am a freelance writer, tutor, and licensed Social Studies teacher from Indiana. I have a Masters degree in Secondary Education and a Bachelors degree in Sociology. I live in Indiana with my wife, daughter, and our two dogs. I'm also a U.S. Navy veteran of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
For my Fellow Trifectans!
1. What is your name (real or otherwise)
I write as Jeff Stickler and Lewis Henry.
2. Describe your writing style in three words.
Deep. Dark. Scary!
3. How long have you been writing online?
I've been writing web content - expository stuff - for about a year. I started blogging for an online magazine's new project in April 2013, but I can't reveal who they are until launch.
4. Which, if any, other writing challenges do you participate in?
I only participate in one other writing challenge: Flash Friday. I'm looking for more challenges to do to improve my fiction writing skills. My goal is to write for one Flash Fiction or short story challenge every day. I've only recently decided to start publishing my fiction writing. I've written fiction since 5th grade where I wrote an 18 - page story for an English assignment that was supposed to be 2 pages! But, I've been keeping my stories to myself.
5. Describe one way in which you could improve your writing.
Publish my fiction writing and get feedback from veteran writers. In fact, that's what I'm starting to do now!
6. What is the best writing advice you’ve ever been given?
"Always move the story forward." I ask myself, "Where is this taking the story?" ever since I got that advice to help me edit my work.
7. Who is your favorite author?
I'm a HUGE fan of Stephen King. Besides loving the horror genre, I like his interesting (and conflicted) characters. His stories feel like they could really happen, no matter how outrageous the idea (like cars with a mind of their own in Christine).
8. How do you make time to write?
I'm a freelance writer and tutor, so I write for a living! If I'm not writing web content or fiction (usually Flash Fiction), I'm writing lesson plans for my tutoring students.
9. Give us one word we should consider using as a prompt. Remember--it must have a third definition.
Vice.
10. Direct us to one blog post of yours that we shouldn't miss reading.
Sorry, I can't! I'm blogging for a magazine's new online project and it hasn't been published yet. Once it's published I'll post a link here. I've written some pretty funny stuff so far - which I don't usually do - and I think you'll enjoy reading it.
